Pre-Production Prototypes Are Here (And One Is Really Quiet)
TL;DR
- The first two pre-production prototypes are built (including a dark brown version)
- One prototype is very quiet (below 30 dB at slow speeds) while the other turned out slightly louder
- A question to everyone how favors an all-black version: would you like the wood grain to remain visible or do you prefer a uniform black finish?
First Model: Dark Brown
The first two pre-production prototypes are ready.
And I have to say: I really like the dark brown frame with dark gray slats. It looks clean, warm, and premium. The only thing I'm not happy with are the light colored rubber pads at the bottom.
This was the very first version made from the thicker wood I shared last week. Interestingly, it turned out slightly louder than the other prototype. I suspect this might be related to the CNC issues I mentioned in the last update, where the machine got stuck multiple times during milling.
Second Model: A Failure
The second frame isn't shown here because I made a mistake during manufacturing, and I'm currently not sure whether it's usable.

The plan is to paint this one black, so we can finally see what an all-black version looks like in real life.
For those of you who prefer the all-black option: Would you like the wood grain to remain subtly visible through the paint, or should the black finish completely cover the wood structure for a more uniform look? I'd love your feedback on that.
Third Model: The Quiet One
The third prototype, however, finally went through CNC milling without any issues. And it shows.
This one is really quiet:
- Below 30 dB at slow walking speeds
- Around 40 dB at higher walking speeds
That's exactly the direction we want to go.
Photos of different color options
As mentioned, the all-black version is still missing. But here are photos of the
- dark brown frame with dark gray slats
- light frame with dark gray slats
- light frame with light slats
